Elena-Emanuela Rusu MD, PhD is Assistant Professor of Nephrology, “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest and consultant in nephrology, Fundeni Clinical Institute, Bucharest, which is Expert Center for Rare Diseases of the Reno-Urinary System, the only specialized center in Romania, member of the European Reference Network for Rare Kidney Diseases. She defended her Ph. D. Thesis in 2013. Dr. Elena-Emanuela Rusu has a broad experience in nephrological pathologies and is focused on rare diseases of reno-urinary system. She is recognized as a regional expert in rare kidney diseases, especially metabolic nephropathies: Fabry disease and primary hyperoxaluria type I. Her research interest includes genetics of renal diseases, the management of hereditary kidney diseases, the prevention of progression and management of chronic kidney diseases, the cardiovascular and metabolic consequences of kidney diseases. Besides the extensive clinical work, she authored and co-authored many papers published in both national and renowned international journals. She was also project manager or coordinator in national research projects, investigator in 29 international studies.  She is the current president and founding member of the Romanian Association for the Study of Hereditary Kidney Diseases. She is member in the Romanian Society of Nephrology, the European Renal Association, the Romanian Society of Cardiology and the Romanian Society of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology.
